So, I’m a little curious, what’s everyone’s editing process? For me, it varies between storyboarding practically every scene, (like I’m trying to do with my current video) to just throwing clips of the timeline and seeing what sticks (I don’t do that as much anymore, but every once in a while I will.)

I'm a really heavy clipper. Unless I clip it really precisely beforehand, most likely I'll never finish a video. So, I write a script for the footage in avisynth (Often just a source and a resize line, although if the footage is interlaced or at a weird frame rate I'll also use filters for that), and then import it into VirtualDub. I then scrub in VirtualDub, to find the parts of the source I want to use. I'll then write a second script, which imports the initial script for the source and adds an appropriate trim line, as well as any filters that don't effect frame rate (sharpening, degraining etc). Then I just save that clip and repeat over and over again until I have every clip from that particular source that I could ever want. By this time, presuming that I know the song well enough, I'll already have a pretty good idea in my mind of which clips will go where, and what I want the video too look like overall. From there, I basically just throw the clips onto the timeline and hope for the best.

For me it depends on the editing style. If I'm going to be using f(x), usually I plan what effects I'm going to use and what colour correcter work best for the Anime footage, and choose out the sparkles overlays I'm going to be using if any. For any style, I usually open my footage in timeline and trim the clip, adding it to the time line and replaying the footage to see if it goes with the flow of the music. When I get to masking, I don't use vages to mask since it takes to long and is tiring, I open up photoshop and use the masking method there by masking the clips frame by frame. It' faster to do so since I can use my graphic tablet to mask the clips. And when I do use text effects (rarely now) I usually use basic kentic typography skills, and try not to make it too flashy cause I hate it when there's a video that has like 10 seconds of some over used anime scene and there rest flashy text effects.

I really prefer just throwing up clips and not storyboarding. I feel if I storyboard then I could have potentially put something even better in that area but because I already attached it to a character or specific part of the story, it would be impossible to change it. Some songs though, I feel there are parts meant for certain characters, and I like to storyboard then. Effects are a pain in the rear for me, I can't seem to use them and have them NOT take over the video. For some videos that may not be so bad but for the particular video I used effects on, I really didn't like it. Effects are a new thing for me and I'm still learning, but there are many times where I think I should just stick to vanilla editing...

For me, before throwing anything to my timeline the first thing I do is get the sources I want and think of a good story. Then I watch an episode or 2 of a source I will be using (yes with no subs or dubs) to figure out what will I do for the effects, style, & look then I get to editing. After 15 seconds or so I go on youtube and watch some amvs or random stuff for about an hour or so. After that I do a little of graphic designing for about an hour. Once finished I get back into editing my amv. When I have completed 1 min. of the clip I then stop editing for a few months and have some fun with graphic designs and stuff. After a few months break I start editing again with some fresh Ideas. By later that month I either decide to drop the video and start fresh or complete it.
That is my process
